We didn't have any refreshments and not that many people showed up. And they didn't stay long. I decided to have refreshments this year and sent out an announcement that referred to the gathering as a reception. The attendance was many times greater, people stayed longer, and from what I could tell, people had a better time. For one thing having beverages on such a hot day was important.
